We’ve all been there, no one to watch the kids, can't afford a sitter, too tired, not enough time etc…
Date night is so important, but how do you make it happen while the kids are still little?
You STAY HOME! That's right! Date night in your kitchen, living room, bedroom, or even the backyard!
Here are just a few ideas to get you started.
Movie night
Plain and simple right? Put the kids to bed, make a snack, get comfy clothes on, snuggle up and enjoy! However if your spouse is anything like mine… he’ll be asleep before the opening credits end!
Romantic Dinner
When you have multiple children, getting the chance to actually sit down and eat your meal while it’s still hot seems impossible. For a stage in my life my husband was getting off work late and if we waited to do dinner with him, then the kids were getting to bed late which just made everyone cranky. So, often I would feed them first and put them to bed. Dad would get home, tuck them in, and shower. While he was doing that I would make us a separate dinner or heat up plates I saved from dinner. Then we would enjoy our meal alone with mostly silence.
Want to spice it up a bit? Add some music, candles, and maybe even dress up! We even sat outside under the stars a few times.
Dessert
Almost just the same as dinner. On nights my husband didn’t work so late dinner was still a little chaotic with multiple children. We would work as a team to get dinner cleaned up and kids to bed, only to enjoy some ice cream, brownies, or a pie together before bed.
Always an option to spice it up a little bit, try strawberries and whipped cream ;)
Board Games and Snacks
Are you noticing a trend here? There is always food when it comes to our date nights! When playing games together we love to have a little snack. Cheese and crackers, grapes, even just grab a bag of chips and sometimes that'll hit the spot! Scrabble, cards, yahtzee, and jenga are all great ideas!
Paint and Wine
Ever see your friends who always have a sitter or dont have kids going out to those cute paint workshops? They take you step by step to create beautiful art on a canvas with little to no talent. Looks fun right?! Did you know you can easily take one of those classes for FREE on youtube?! This one takes a little more planning, but just be sure to have all the supplies and set up as soon as the kids go down. Get Canvas here, paint and brushes here!
Spice this one up with edible body paint!
Build a Fort
Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes I forget what it’s like to just have fun. Let that inner child out and just enjoy life a little. One of the most memorable times as a child is building and camping out in a fort! Kids love it so why can’t we? Build a fun fort and camp in it! Watch a movie, read a book, play a game inside, or ya know…. Make more babies?
You can even move your mattress into for those of you who find no amount of fun to sleep on the ground.
Dating your spouse is just soooo important to keep that love alive. It is to easy to fall into the routine trap and forget about eachother. Not only is this a great way to keep your marriage strong and alive, but it also sets a good example for your children for when they grow up and get married. So what are you waiting for?! Go plan a date!
